Australia’s climate pollution reporting rules are broken and allow coal and gas companies to lie about their huge super-polluting methane emissions. Australia’s methane emissions are likely DOUBLE what we officially report. 

Right now, Minister Bowen is deciding whether to fix these broken rules. He has the opportunity to require coal and gas polluters to accurately measure their emissions and stop guesstimating their damaging pollution. 

Putting a stop to guessing emissions and actually measuring them is literally the least he should do - but he’s at serious risk of caving to pressure from coal and gas companies. 

If coal and gas companies start to accurately measure their pollution, they’ll also have to rapidly reduce them. Measuring and reducing super-polluting methane is our best strategy for keeping warming below 1.5 degrees.
