As climate-fuelled disasters intensify, hitting communities harder than ever, we need solutions that cut climate pollution at new and far-reaching scales.

World leading experts from the International Energy Agency say that taking action on methane by cutting coal & gas is our best hope to reduce the worst impacts of climate change.

We have an unmatched opportunity to curb runaway global heating by pushing governments and mining corporations to cut coal & gas and reach Methane Zero.

The UN outlines that the world’s methane emissions could be reduced by 45% this decade. This could prevent 260,000 premature deaths, 775,000 asthma-related hospital visits, 73 billion hours of lost labour from extreme heat and 25 million tonnes of crop losses. It would also stop nearly 0.3°C of global warming by 2045, helping to limit global temperature rise to 1.5˚C and putting the planet on track to achieve the Paris Agreement targets.

Where carbon dioxide traps heat in the atmosphere for hundreds to thousands of years, it only takes about a decade for methane to break down.

The Australian Government signed the Global Methane Pledge. Now, they need to safeguard communities by committing to a National Methane Action Plan that brings coal and gas mining to Methane Zero.

Dozens of countries across the globe are committing to Methane Action Plans and momentum continues to gain pace. It’s time for governments and companies to act on methane because it’s a huge threat and a huge opportunity for climate hope.
